Saskatchewan election results 2016: Sask. Party wins Regina University riding

Tina Beaudry-Mellor of the Sask. Party has won the Regina University riding with 3,379 votes beating out the NDP’s Aleana Young who got 2,955 votes.

Summary: An urban riding in south central Regina

Boundaries: The Regina neighbourhoods of Hillsdale and Whitmore Park are in this riding. Regina University stretches from Arcola Avenue in the north  to South City Limits Road in the south, to Albert Street in the west and Pilot Butte Creek South in the east.

Last Election: New riding so no incumbent.

History: This is a new riding created for the April 4 provincial election. Three additional constituencies have been added for this general election. The new boundaries were passed into law on May 15, 2013 after feedback from individuals and groups.

Candidates

Saskatchewan Party: Tina Beaudry-Mellor, long-time instructor in the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Regina and owner of TBM Strategies, a small management consulting business.

NDP: Aleana Young, school board trustee for the Regina Public School Division, where she is chairwoman of the Community Relations Committee.

Liberal: Silvia Volodko, small business worker and former secondary school teacher

Green: Yordanos Tesfemariam, Education Coordinator at Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan
