Federal Election 2015: Abitibi-Témiscamingue riding results

Summary: This is another of the former Bloc Québécois seats that went down to NDP defeat in 2011. Incumbent Christine Moore will face former journalist Yvon Moreau, who is running for the Bloc.

Boundaries: This riding covers a large area of western Quebec along the Ontario border. The community of Baie-James has now moved into this riding.

Last Election: NDP Moore won this seat with 51.2 per cent of the vote, defeating three-term Bloc Québécois incumbent Marc Lemay, who earned 31.6 per cent.

History: This seat was primarily Bloc Québécois territory from 1993 through 2011, with Liberal MP Gilbert Barrette holding the seat for just one year after a by-election in 2003. Like Quebec electoral districts outside the Island of Montreal, they elected BQ candidates from 1993 to 2011, PC candidates in 1984 and 1988.

Demographics: Just 0.84 per cent of the population were immigrants here as of the last census, the second lowest number in Quebec.
