Man shot in St. James, Winnipeg police say

WINNIPEG – A man was shot in the 2700 block of Portage Avenue Wednesday morning, Winnipeg police say.

Police received a report of gunshots being fired near the Courts of St. James at about 5:15 a.m. They later learned a man with a gunshot wound was treated at a Winnipeg hospital.

The man is in stable condition, police said, but they released no further information, citing the ongoing investigation.

Several shell casings could be seen in the parking lot in front of Legends Bar and Grill near the Courts of St. James on Wednesday morning. Police tape surrounded a large area of the lot.

An area resident told Global News he was woken at about 5 a.m. by two shots that were followed by a minute or two of silence, then another two shots.

His grey truck was stuck behind police tape and had new dents in it, he said.

Multiple cruisers and police officers were at the scene investigating on Wednesday morning.
