REGINA – RCMP were called to W.P. Sandin Public School in Shellbrook, Sask. where a student stabbed another student. Police say a 19-year-old male allegedly stabbed a female youth under the age of 18 while leaving a classroom in the school.
The victim was brought to the hospital in Shellbrook to be treated for injuries that are described as serious. The type of weapon used in the stabbing has not been confirmed.
RCMP found the suspect in a home a short time later and he was arrested without incident.
Both the victim and the suspect are students at W.P. Sandin Public School.

Police are continuing to investigate and will provided updates when they are available.
“It’s an incident that you can’t explain and your heart goes out to the student and her family and all the friends and neighbours in the community and the message to them from the school and the school division is whatever support we can provide, we’ll be there to do that,” said Robert Bratvold, Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division education director.
Shellbrook is approximately 140 kilometers north of Saskatoon.
