WINNIPEG —  The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have a total of six picks in Tuesday night’s Canadian Football League draft including the number two overall selection behind the Ottawa RedBlacks.

“I think relative to years past this is a deep draft.” said Blue Bombers General Manager Kyle Walters.  “Generally the draft is judged on the depth of offensive linemen and there’s a good group this year.  There’s four, five, six offensive linemen that are projected to go pretty high.”

Walters wasn’t tipping his hand over who they’d like to grab with their second overall selection and it appears unlikely they trade the pick.

“It’s no secret we’ve talked about having to increase the Canadian talent on our team and everybody talks about that but it’s not easy.” said Walters.  “You try to handle some things in free agency but you have to have your draft picks on your roster and contributing.”

The Blue Bombers also have two picks in the second round, and one each in the fourth, fifth and sixth rounds.

Bisons receiver Nic Demski is ranked 9th by the CFL scouting bureau and after failing to land an NFL contract at Cleveland Browns mini-camp this past weekend is projected to be a first round pick.

“He’s a great football player.” said Walters.  “We had him in here for a meeting, he’s a sharp kid, works hard, phenomenal athlete and nothing’s changed on our thoughts on Nic that he’s going to be a high draft pick somewhere.”

The annual CFL draft begins Tuesday night at 7:00PM CT.
