WINNIPEG – Police are still looking for suspects after a popular ice cream shop, full of customers, was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday night.

Winnipeg police say Sargent Sundae, at 2053 Portage Avenue in St. James, was robbed at around 9:45 p.m. by three men. A witness told Global News the robbers wore ski masks and carried guns. An employee told Global News the men were armed with a gun and a knife.

It was a warm, summer-like evening and police say there were several customers and employees inside when the robbers arrived.

“While one of the males attended to the counter, the two others watched over the customers,” police said in a news release Thursday. No one was hurt.

Sargent Sundae accepts cash only from customers; police wouldn’t say how much was stolen. The three suspects escaped. Police had only a vague description of two men with a medium build and one man with a thin build. But officers later provided a description of the robbers’ getaway vehicle: a 2003 Hyundai Elantra, Manitoba license plate FMJ 738. Anyone who sees it should not approach, just call 911.

Anyone that can help identify the suspects is asked to contact investigators at (204) 986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).
