TORONTO – A teenage girl working at an ice cream parlour threw punches in an attempt to stop a robber from making off with the shop’s cash.

Rachael Bishop, a 19-year-old from the Seattle suburb of Lynnwood, was working at Baskin Robbins this week when an unidentified man asked for change for a dollar.

Moments later the man had pulled a gun and attempted to reach into the register.

But, instead of allowing the suspect an easy pay-day, surveillance video shows that Bishop instinctively started throwing haymakers. The suspect tried to hit back after getting punched in the face.

“I just really didn’t want him to take the money,” Bishop explained to KOMO News. “I love Baskin Robbins and all my customers and I work really hard, we all do. So this is not cool for someone to just steal that and walk away with it.”

Bishop then chased the man in a baseball cap out of the store and through a mall parking lot while, at the same time, warning bystanders that he had a gun.

The suspect was able to run off with $280 from the register, according to KOMO, before being caught later by police. As it turns out, the suspect was a wanted felon.

“They did a really good job directing police into a starting location where the suspect was last seen disappearing into a wooded area,” Cmdr. Jim Nelson told KIRO.

Bishop could have a future in law enforcement with her level of bravery. But fear not, would-be crooks, this crime fighter isn’t thinking of going pro any time soon.

“No, I realize how stupid it was to punch someone with a gun,” she said.
