TORONTO – An occasional teacher with the Toronto District School Board and part-time tutor has been arrested and charged in connection with a child pornography investigation, police say.
In a statement issued Monday, police said investigators with the Sex Crimes Unit arrested Brian Mallette, 50, of Toronto, after conducting a search March 27.
Police allege Mallette, using the online handle “coachperv,” accessed and saved images and videos of the sexual abuse of children, in addition to “authoring child sexual abuse stories for public consumption.”
Mallette has been charged with two counts of possession of child pornography and accessing child pornography.
Police said he was employed as an occasional teacher with the TDSB since 2002, and worked for “extended periods” at Earl Haig Secondary School, Northern Secondary and Forest Hill Collegiate Institute.
The TDSB said in a statement that Mallette has not been at any of the board’s schools since his arrest “and won’t be returning to any school pending the outcome of this matter.”
“The safety of our students is a top priority and we are committed to enforcing policies about the well-being of students,” the statement said.
