CALGARY – A Calgary man has been found guilty of the second-degree murder of a bartender more than four-and-a-half years after the crime happened.
Kyle Ledesma shot 36-year-old Dexter Bain to death in the northeast in November of 2010.
Bain’s mother, Kim Godin-Labruso, now lives in Kentucky but was in court for all five weeks of the trial. She says she still feels the pain of losing her only son but is satisfied justice has been served.
Ledesma was already in custody when he was rearrested for the murder of Bain.
Court heard Bain was closing up the Our Place Pub & Grill, 3709 26th Avenue Northeast, when Ledesma robbed him at gunpoint then shot him twice in the back with a .22 caliber revolver.
While the verdict is a relief for the family, Godin-Labruso knows it won’t bring her son back.
“Well obviously my husband and I are pleased but there really is no pleased or good thing about this situation. It’s bittersweet. My son is gone. Now at least we know Mr. Ledesma will not be able to hurt another family like he hurt our family and he hurt me.”
Ledesma now faces a life sentence with parole eligility set between 10 and 25 years.
The sentence will be handed down next month.
