REGINA – An investigation has been launched into an incident at a University of Regina campus bar.

The institution, along with the U of R Students’ Union (URSU), confirmed it is looking into reports of a verbal confrontation between a patron and a contracted performer at The Owl late Thursday night.

“We take student security very seriously, so allegations like this appearing on social media are something we’re going to investigate in a thorough manner,” said Devon Peters, URSU president. The Students’ Union owns and operates The Owl.

There are conflicting reports of what transpired, but on social media, apparent witnesses said the host of ‘trivia night’ made light of sexual assault.

Both the U of R and URSU said there have been no formal complaints filed as of Friday afternoon.

“The Students’ Union doesn’t condone any jokes of that nature, but at this time we still don’t have enough information to ascertain that is what took place,” Peters said. He added that the performer does not represent the URSU.

Peters said there are security cameras in The Owl, but was unsure if the dispute would have been caught on video.
