Loyal Flames fan from Nova Scotia ready to see her first game

CALGARY – A loyal Calgary Flames fan from Nova Scotia has made a special trip to Calgary to see the team play.

Brenda MacFarlane fell in love with the Flames in 1981 when fellow Cape Bretoner Al MacInnis was added to the roster.

Despite being a longtime supporter, MacFarlane has never been able to attend a Flames game before.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The 39-year-old is confined to a wheelchair due to her Spina Bifida, but took her first flight in 16 years on Wednesday, landing at the Calgary International Airport just after 10 a.m.

MacFarlane’s cousin surprised the Flames fan with tickets to see the team play on Valentine’s Day, when they take on the Vancouver Canucks.

“I can’t wait. I can’t wait and they’d better win,” said an excited MacFarlane.
