WINNIPEG – Jets All-Star representative Dustin Byfuglien is one of many things going right for the club midway through the season.

“The way they’ve been able to establish that expectation for success is one of the greatest bits of progress they’ve made from this year compared to the first three years,” said Kelly Moore from 680 CJOB.

Winnipeg currently has the fifth-best record in the western conference. Their 60 points putting them ahead of teams like San Jose, Los Angeles, Colorado and Minnesota.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“Just don’t get too excited when you’re winning,” said Winnipeg Jets head coach Paul Maurice after the team’s recent 4-0 win over Columbus. “There have been a lot of really important challenges met over this stretch of games.”

Like when the Jets lost a string of defenceman to injuries but were able to pull through with some key additions – like Ben Chiarot.

“What he has been able to do as a partner for Dustin Byfuglien has been almost as big a story I think as Byfuglien,” said Moore.

And there’s no leaving out NHL rookie Michael Hutchinson, who continues to have some of the best numbers in the league

With 34 games left this regular season, it’s time for the playoff push.

“I don’t think anybody’s overly excited,” said Maurice. “I don’t think we’ve been lucky and I think we can get better.”

The Jets are back in action Tuesday in Pittsburgh.
