Potentially deadly drugs send 10 to Saskatoon hospitals

SASKATOON – Ten people were taken to Saskatoon hospitals overnight Friday after taking a bad batch of drugs. Police say people became very ill after taking cocaine or ecstacy.

“Just by the numbers we saw (Friday) night, it’s very concerning to us,” said police spokesperson Alyson Edwards.

One of those was a teen who was involved in a crash. Edwards said symptoms were consistent with a drug over dose.

“That involved a driver who was feeling the effects of what we believe to be a compromised drug. We’re not sure what the chemical is exactly, what we do know is that it is life-threatening.”

“What our objective here is to get the message out to people who are street users … that if they take something, they may be putting their life at risk.”

Police continue to investigate and are asking anyone with information about the sale of the drugs, or where they are coming from, to contact them at 306-975-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
