Two people seriously injured in crash east of Calgary

CALGARY – Two people were seriously injured in a collision east of the city on Friday.

It happened on Highway 564 and Range Road 284, just two kilometres east of Stoney Trail, around 7 a.m.

Officials say one vehicle was pulling out of a driveway when it was struck by another vehicle travelling on the highway.

Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles when emergency crews arrived on scene.

EMS say extrication efforts were made difficult due to the significant damage sustained by the vehicles.

In addition, one of the vehicles (a pickup truck) had come to rest on top of the other vehicle (a car).

It took fire crews more than an hour to extricate a woman in her mid 40s from the pickup truck. She was rushed to hospital in serious, potentially life-threatening condition.
