UPDATED: Two in custody in Cole Harbour shooting, 3 sent to hospital

HALIFAX – Two people are in custody following a shooting in Cole Harbour that sent two men and a woman to hospital Sunday night.

RCMP confirm two of the victims have serious injuries and one of the injured is the son of the homeowner.

The initial 911 call came in just before 7 p.m. at 52 Arklow Dr. In a media release, the RCMP said the preliminary investigation revealed that four males wearing bandannas forced their way into the house and fired shots.

Investigators closed off the road to traffic and asked the public to stay away.

A search for suspects led police to a house on Caldwell Road near Deerbrooke Drive. Officers surrounded the home and took two males — an adult and a youth — into custody after they surrendered.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Amy Matchett said the two taken into custody didn’t live at the home where the shooting took place.

As of 10 p.m., the scene at Arklow Drive remained cordoned off but the street was opened back up to traffic.

“Right now we’re containing the scene,” said Staff Sgt. Matchett. “The [Forensic Identification Unit] members are on the scene looking for evidence.”

The heavy police presence drew many neighbours to the street. James Thomson was visiting family who lived on Arklow Drive and said he came outside just as paramedics were leaving the scene.

“I saw four ambulances leave here. I parked just where I am now, up the road and saw four ambulances leave here and thought, ‘this can’t be good.'”

Staff Sgt. Matchett described the case as an active attempted murder investigation.
