TORONTO – An Air Canada flight heading to Hong Kong was forced to turn around less than an hour into the flight and return to Pearson International Airport Monday morning after “mechanical issues” turned up mid-flight.

The plane left Toronto at 10 a.m. and flew north. The plane turned around over Georgian Bay shortly after 11 a.m. and returned to Pearson.

Reports suggest the plane experienced “mechanical issues” during the flight which may have included an unlatched door.

The plane, carrying roughly 370 people, landed safely at Pearson shortly after 11:30 a.m.

An Instagram photo captured the plane dumping what is believed to be fuel while over Georgian Bay.

So that's pure 💵💵💵 (fuel) spewing out of my aircraft wing on to Georgian Bay. YYZ -> YYZ :(
