TDSB launches probe into fatal stabbing at Etobicoke school

TORONTO – The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) launched an investigation Monday into the stabbing death of a grade 12 student at an Etobicoke high school in September.

The three person steering committee will include Kim Derry, the former deputy chief of the Toronto Police, Sharifa Khan the President and CEO of Balmoral Multicultural Marketing and Karen Forbes, the former TDSB executive superintendent of education.

Hamid Aminzada , 19, was stabbed near the front lobby of North Albion Collegiate Institute on September 23. He was taken to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The steering committee will look into what happened in the school before, during and after the stabbing.

The three members have also been told to delve into the TDSB’s response and whether anything could be improved.

The homicide was the first at a Toronto school since 15-year-old Jordan Manners was shot and killed inside C.W. Jefferys in May 2007.
