Robberies, shooting keep Saskatoon police busy Saturday night

SASKATOON – It has been a busy Saturday night and Sunday morning for Saskatoon police as officers dealt with three armed robberies and a shooting.

The first robbery happened just after 11:30 p.m. in Sutherland.

A man was having a smoke in an alley along the 100-block of 110th Street when he was approached by a man and a woman who asked for a cigarette.

They then pulled out a sawed-off firearm and stole his cell phone before fleeing on foot.

A few minutes later, a man was shot while on an apartment balcony in the 100-block of Avenue P South in the Pleasant Hill neighbourhood.

The 19-year-old suffered gunshot wounds to his lower body, including both legs.

He was taken to hospital and is in stable condition.

Police believe the shooting was not a random act and say the suspect and victim are known to each other.

The second robbery took place in the 400-block of Russell Road in Silverwood Heights.

A man and a woman armed with pepper spray robbed a business of cash and cigarettes.

Both were dressed in black and were wearing ski masks.

Around 5 a.m. Sunday, four men, including two armed with handguns, robbed a convenience store in the 1000-block of Taylor Street East was robbed.

The men took cash and cigarettes and then fled on foot. All four were wearing bandanas.

Two employees working at the time were not injured.
