Saskatchewan youth charged with pointing firearm at child

LAC LA RONGE, Sask. – A youth has been charged after a firearm was allegedly pointed at a boy walking on a northern Saskatchewan school ground.

Mounties say the boy was walking home for lunch from Bell’s Point Elementary School at Lac La Ronge Indian Band when the incident happened.

The boy told a parent who then contacted La Ronge RCMP.

Officers in the area doing school zone enforcement met with staff who identified the youth in question.

The school was placed under a brief lockdown while police located the youth, who is not a student at the school. He was arrested and Mounties recovered an air pistol.

The youth, who cannot be named under provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with pointing a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.

He has been released into the care of his parents.
