TORONTO — Batman and Superman won’t be challenging Captain America at the box office in 2016.

Warner Bros., the studio behind Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice has changed its release date from May 6, 2016 to March 25 to avoid direct competition from Captain America 3.

Meanwhile, 20th Century Fox has shifted the made-in-Toronto Poltergeist reboot from Feb. 13, 2015 to July 24. Three days of reshoots for the film begin Friday in Toronto.

Warner Bros. announced the new date on Wednesday for Zack Snyder’s highly anticipated Batman v. Superman starring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill. It bumps the action flick Geostorm starring Gerard Butler.

The studio also claimed nine release dates between Aug. 5, 2016 and June 19, 2020 for DC Comics movies. It set May 2018 and May 2019 for animated movies — reportedly Lego Movie sequels.
