Father charged in death of 6-year-old argues for lesser charges

CALGARY- The man charged with first-degree murder in the death of his six-year-old daughter is arguing for his charge to be reduced.

Spencer Jordan, along with his wife Marie Magoon, were arrested after Meika Jordan died of blunt force trauma back in 2011.

At court on Friday, he challenged the committal for the charges to be reduced—much to the frustration of Meika’s mother and step-father.

“To watch someone sit in that prisoner box, to hear the details that are discussed, and see them look across and smile at you…” said Brian Woodhouse, who left the proceedings in tears.

“We’re here for Meika,” added Kyla Woodhouse.

“We are here for Meika, so somewhere in the heavens she knows these parents did love her and care for her very much.”

The pair left court frustrated, by what they see as another attempt to stall justice.

Both Jordan and Magoon have been ordered to be tried by judge alone, and proceedings are expected to begin next March.
