Four injured in stabbing spree at Cornwall Centre

REGINA – Four people have been injured after a stabbing incident at the Cornwall Centre this evening.

It happened just after 6 p.m. Two Regina police officers who were at the Cornwall Centre as part of their regular downtown patrol alerted all members to a stabbing that had just occurred, and requested back-up and EMS.

Three of the victims were transported to hospital for treatment, while a fourth was treated at the scene.

Police say a male youth is in custody and is facing charges. Police say he entered the mall through the 11th Avenue doors armed with a knife. It’s alleged he then randomly attacked people in close proximity.

“I went to go and see what it was about and there was this kid about 14 and he was lying on the ground and there was a big pile of blood,” said Summer Pascal, a witness on scene. “He was lying down and he got up and his neck was just gushing with blood. There was blood everywhere. I’m traumatized. It was so crazy. I was so in shock.”

The police officers asked him to drop the weapon, and the suspect responded by throwing the knife at the officers. He was immediately taken into custody.

“He was like my size. Just a little kid. He just rolled up with a knife on a skateboard, wearing a red rag over his face,” said Pascal.

All four victims are male, and there is no known connection between them or between the victims and the suspect. The ages of the victims are not known at this point.

The mall is closed, and the scene is secured.

A motive isn’t known at this time.

Another witness on the scene says she saw a man wearing a red bandana stab another person right in front of her, and then displayed several gang signs. She says the victim’s clothing was covered in blood.

A third witness says she was just leaving Footlocker when she leaned over the second story railing to look at the victim lying in a pool of blood.
