Fight carries over to Saskatchewan health centre

LA LOCHE, Sask. – A fight that started in La Loche spilled over to include a health centre where an assault patient was receiving urgent care.

RCMP were first called to Poplar Point in La Loche at 3:30 a.m. on Sunday after a fight broke out.

A 27-year-old man was found unconscious in the middle of the street.

He was taken to the La Loche Heath Centre for treatment of what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

After police escorts left, three men showed up at the health centre armed with baseball bats and machetes. RCMP say these suspects were targeting the injured man and/or his family.

The suspects smashed the front doors of the emergency department and chased two of the victim’s family members out of the health centre.

RCMP received a 911 call to return to the health centre at 4:43 a.m. but the suspects had already fled.

Health officials say no patients or staff were injured during the incident.

Just before 6 a.m., two of the suspects returned to the health centre for treatment of injuries.

Breton Fontaine, 21, and 21-year-old Edward Lemaigre were arrested at that time.

They have each been charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence and mischief under $5,000. Both appeared in provincial court on Monday morning.

RCMP have issued a warrant for the third suspect, 25-year-old Earl Lemaigre of La Loche.
