Calgarians are Canada’s least generous tippers

CALGARY – A new study suggests Calgarians are the cheapest in the country when it comes to tipping.

People in the southern Alberta city tip an average of 13.3 per cent and only tip 59.4 per cent of the time, according to a recent survey by mobile payment company Square.

Meanwhile, the survey found Ottawans are the most generous tippers.

Top tippers in Canada, according to Square

  1. Ottawa – Tip 76.7 per cent of the time – Average tip of 15.6 per cent.
  2. Montreal – Tip 70.4 per cent of the time – Average tip of 14.4 per cent
  3. Toronto – Tip 65.5 per cent of the time – Average tip of 14.5 per cent
  4. Vancouver – Tip 62 per cent of the time – Average tip 13.4 per cent
  5. Calgary – Tip 59.4 per cent of the time – Average tip of 13.3 per cent
