Henneberry arrives in court to face charge of stealing Loretta Saunders’ car

HALIFAX – The woman charged with stealing the car of Halifax student Loretta Saunders, whose body was found in New Brunswick on Wednesday, appeared in court Thursday.

Victoria Henneberry, 28, was brought in a sheriff’s van and led into the courthouse.

Henneberry wore a white jacket and kept her hood on as she tried to shield her face from media.

Saunders, 26, went missing two weeks ago. She was last seen outside her apartment on Cowie Hill Road in Halifax.

Police said her body was found in a median off Trans-Canada Highway Route 2 west of Salisbury, N.B.

Const. Pierre Bourdages said the case is now a homicide investigation and said police have suspects in the case.

However, he declined to name the suspects since they have not yet been charged.

Henneberry and Blake Legette, 25, were roommates of Saunders. Police allege they stole Saunders’ car and drove it to Windsor, Ontario, where it was recovered.

The pair were brought back to Halifax by police and now face charges of fraud and theft of a motor vehicle.
