Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Ltd. wants the space outside the Air Canada Centre in downtown Toronto to be named after Ford Canada. The <a href="http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/industry-news/marketing/in-sponsorship-deal-torontos-maple-leaf-square-to-be-renamed-ford-square/article20771085/">automobile giant has reportedly</a> struck a five-year sponsorship deal with details of the name change to be officially announced next week. The square is a key celebration location for <a href="http://www.globalnews.ca/tag/toronto-maple-leafs">Toronto Maple Leafs</a> and <a href="http://www.globalnews.ca/tag/toronto-raptors">Raptors</a> fans. The gathering spot is already in the midst of a transformation of sorts. The Leafs recently unveiled plans to pay tribute to the club’s history by <a href="http://globalnews.ca/news/1507207/maple-leafs-to-unveil-new-monuments-to-honour-teams-history/">immortalizing up to 12 players in stone statues.</a> It will grow as the team builds up to its centennial season in 2016-’17. Ford Canada is currently a sponsor of the Leafs, Raptors, and the Air Canada Centre which both teams play in.
