Now that Naheed Nenshi has a seat in the legislature, he and UCP Premier Danielle Smith will face off in question period for the first time when the assembly resumes in October.

Nenshi didn't face any competition for the nomination and, if elected, would become the third NDP leader to represent the riding.

Before taking the helm of the Opposition NDP, Nenshi served as mayor of Calgary for more than a decade.

Naheed Nenshi said he isn't expecting Premier Danielle Smith to call a byelection before the deadline to do so in June, after the house traditionally breaks for the summer.
