Okotoks taps into Calgary’s water supply

CALGARY – The Town of Okotoks has announced they will be developing a contract with the City of Calgary to help them deal with their scare water supply.

The town currently has a population of almost 27,000 people but only enough water to accommodate 30,000 – and voted last year to end a population cap which had been in place for 14 years.

With their growth inevitable, Okotoks Town Council has decided to pursue the development of a regional water system via Calgary.

Officials say several years of researching various water solutions has shown that a regional water pipeline is the best long term solution.

Administrators have been given six months to work with the province and the City of Calgary to work out details on funding and specific timelines.
