Police and firefighters were called to a massive house fire in Surrey’s East Clayton neighbourhood Wednesday evening.
Witnesses at the scene said four homes were fully engulfed in flames near 192a Street and 73 Avenue.
Flames were seen shooting from the homes and garages, which are tightly packed along a residential street.
Due to the intense heat, neighbouring houses still standing were left with warped siding and melted gutters.
“Four homes were badly damaged with several more left with exposures,” according to Deputy Chief Shelley Morris with Surrey Fire.
“There’s no injuries at this time, the fire will be under investigation. We’re just making sure that we’re putting out all the hotspots right now.”
BC Emergency Health Services told Global News two ambulances were deployed to the scene around 6:30 p.m. but no one was taken to hospital.
Sharie Tompkins says she was sleeping on the couch of her sister’s home and cat sitting when she says two loud explosions woke her up and startled the cats.
“Both cats just took off and I looked, and I could see flames coming over the fence from the next-door neighbour’s yard,” Tompkins explained.
“I’m really worried because I don’t know where the cats went. They both just skedaddled out like right away soon as the explosion happened.”
Fire crews performed CPR on a rescued cat, which is reportedly going to be ok.
It’s unclear if all pets have been accounted for.
However, all displaced residents have been accounted for and anyone in need will be receiving lodging for the time being.
