The next busiest day was July 17, with 27,171 YYC-originating passengers.

“During our planning for this year’s busy summer travel season, we anticipated passenger traffic to be near pre-pandemic numbers,” said Bob Sartor, President & CEO, The Calgary Airport Authority.

YYC said the airport is seeing a steady increase in passage numbers throughout the year and especially in July thanks to the Stampede.

In a statement to Global News, Calgary Airport Authority said 247 flights took off July 16 and the 15 busiest days ever have come in the last 24 days.

Sartor said these numbers signal a resurgence in air travel and there is more growth on the horizon for Calgary International Airport.

Despite the historically busy day and increased baggage volume, YYC said there were no hiccups with baggage systems.

During the busy summer season, YYC is reminding travelers arrive at the airport two hours before a domestic flight and three hours ahead of an international or U.S. flight.

Prior to these record numbers, July 11, 2019, was the last record when YYC saw 23,500 departing passengers.
