Calgary man accused of murdering mother, attacking second woman in downtown apartment

A 32-year-old man has been charged following an assault on two women in Calgary that resulted in one of their deaths.

Police said the alleged domestic assaults happened Sunday afternoon in a downtown apartment.

Police said they found two injured women, both in their 60s. Both were taken to the hospital. One suffered minor injuries, while the other was in critical condition and died of her injuries a short time later.

Following an investigation, police identified the deceased woman as Sol Harder, 60, the mother of the accused. An autopsy will be conducted Tuesday to determine the cause of death.

The other woman remains in stable condition in hospital.

John Patrick Bon Harder, 32, of Calgary, was charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. He remains in police custody and is due to appear in court on Tuesday.
