A 34-year-old man is facing a first-degree murder charge following an incident in Hamilton’s city centre, according to police.
Investigators say the occurrence happened at a mid-rise building in a residential neighbourhood around 5 p.m. Monday on Herkimer Street near MacNab Avenue.
Officers found a 62-year-old woman with vital signs absent.
The victim would be pronounced dead a short time later in hospital, according to homicide detectives.
“There was an assault that started in the apartment began in the apartment and it ended in the hallway,” homicide staff sgt. Sara Beck revealed.
“And ultimately, she has died as the result of blunt force trauma.”
Hamilton police revealed the deceased as Jacquelyne (Jackie) Buckle, a 35-year employee with the City of Hamilton
A spokesperson for the city said she was a customer service officer who had retired in 2015.
The accused, identified in a release, was Buckle’s son and it was his apartment on Herkimer where the assault took place.
Police say they are not seeking any other suspects.
