A woman in her 60s is dead and two others injured following a collision in Calgary’s Parkdale neighbourhood on Friday afternoon.
Calgary police said the collision happened just after 2:45 p.m. as the woman was driving a white sedan eastbound along Parkdale Boulevard and then 3 Avenue N.W.
“At such time, a vehicle travelling westbound had crossed the centre median for unknown reasons – which is being investigated at this time. And as a result, the driver was resulted in a head-on collision and was then subsequently T-boned from the vehicle behind it as well,” CPS A/Sgt. Daniel Jordens said to reporters.
Alberta Health Services EMS confirmed the fatality in the 3400 block of 3 Avenue N.W., between Bowness Road N.W. and Parkdale Boulevard N.W.
EMS said two people were transported to hospital, with one in serious condition.
CCTV from a nearby gas station showed the same events Jordens told reporters.
The Calgary Police Service closed Parkdale Blvd. N.W. between 29 Street and 34 Street N.W., advising motorists to find alternate routes. Traffic reconstructionists and other investigators remain on the site.
“We treat every investigation involving life altering or fatality collisions as serious, and we do very extensive investigations in situations like this,” Jordens said.
