Woman found dead at Maple Ridge motel

METRO VANCOUVER — The RCMP’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is investigating after a 27-year-old woman was found dead inside a Maple Ridge motel room Sunday morning.

Ridge Meadows RCMP were called to the Centennial Motel and Trailer Court, located on Lougheed Highway near 216th Street, around 8 a.m. after a man who was known to the victim went to check on her and found her dead, Cpl. Dale Carr of IHIT said.

It is believed the woman was a long-term resident at that motel suite.

Attending investigators observed circumstances that were "suspicious" and "out of the ordinary," Carr said, however no further details were available.

Investigators have not conclusively ruled the incident as a homicide and will not know the cause of death until after an autopsy and toxicology results, Carr said. The earliest an autopsy could be performed is Tuesday.

"Out of an abundance of caution, we’re going to treat it and investigate it as though it was a homicide," Carr said.

Forensic investigators were expected to examined two affected suites, cordoned off with police tape, for the balance of Sunday. On Monday, police will canvass the neighbourhood for information.

It is not yet known if there are any links to drugs, gangs or organized crime.

Anyone with information is asked to call the IHIT tip line at 1-877-551-IHIT. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
