An elderly woman died Monday after being hit by a truck while walking out of the West Kelowna Walmart store.
The store, which is in the 2100 block of Louie Drive, is taped off as police continue to investigate the fatal crash.
Sgt. Greg Woodcox said there was one occupant of the pickup truck that fatally struck the woman and they remained on the scene and cooperated fully with police. They were not impaired, he added.
Earlier in the day, he noted that the woman, 82, was seriously injured in the impact and was in “extremely grave condition.”
“(The woman) had been struck by a pickup truck in front of the entrance/exit area of the store and she has sustained … life-threatening injuries,” Woodcox said.
Mounties have released the scene at the West Kelowna Walmart, and the woman’s family has been notified.
No time estimate on how long the investigation will take has been provided.
