Durham Regional Police say they are investigating a fatal shooting in Oshawa on Thursday night.
Police were called to a plaza parking lot in the area of King Street West and Park Road for reports of a shooting at around 8:24 p.m.
Despite life-saving measures a 30-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
He was identified as Michael Nigris, from Oshawa.
Speaking to reporters on Friday morning, DRPS Sgt. Joanne Bortoluss said the victim was an employee of Cash Connections in the plaza.
She also said the shooting appears to be an isolated incident.
Investigators said the suspect fled in a vehicle that was recovered shortly after but are still searching for that suspect.
The suspect is described as a male with a small build and was wearing a dark hooded sweater and dark pants at the time of the shooting.
“The Homicide Unit has now taken over this investigation and are asking for anyone with information or video footage, including dashcam and home surveillance, to please contact police,” investigators said.
