Cape Breton police issue emergency alert after shots fired in Sydney Mines

Police in Cape Breton issued an emergency alert after shots were fired at a residence on Barrington Street in Sydney Mines early Saturday morning.

The alert, issued shortly after 11 a.m. Saturday, said police were looking for a 2015 white Hyundai Elantra. Police said there were two or three males in the vehicle who were believed to be armed.

Cape Breton police spokesperson Desiree Magnus said at 5:20 p.m. that the vehicle had been found, but there was nobody inside.

“Police continue to investigate the shooting incident at a residence in Sydney Mines which appears to be an isolated incident,” Magnus said in a statement. “Further details will be released as they become available.”

Nobody was injured in the shooting.
