Two people and two animals died in Calgary’s southeast Friday night from suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.
Fire crews arrived at the house on the 2500 block of 49 Avenue S.E. just after 8 p.m., and found 58-year-old Rob Darichuk and his 22-year-old daughter Madison Katelyn Darichuk dead in the garage. Later, two deceased dogs were also found in the garage.
Fire crews detected high levels of carbon monoxide in the garage, which is believed to be from a vehicle that was left running in the garage.
Firefighters provided medical attention to the man and woman until EMS arrived and took over.
Global News spoke with the family of Rob Darichuk, who was a mechanic. They believe he was working on a truck in the garage when the incident happen. They also said Rob and his daughter have a history of drug addiction and may have been using fentanyl inside the garage.
The medical examiner’s office deemed the deaths accidental. As their deaths were deemed accidental, there will be no further investigation, police said.
