Teen dead after hit and run collision on Upper Paradise Road in Hamilton, Ont.

Hamilton, Ont., police say a 15-year-old boy is dead after a fatal hit and run collision on Upper Paradise Road at Kordun Street, Wednesday afternoon.

Crash investigators say another 15-year-old was the driver of a hatchback sedan that failed to remain at the scene.

 

The teen boy who was hit was walking home from school around 3:00 p.m., say police.

It’s alleged the Dodge Caliber was travelling northbound at a high rate of speed and attempted a turn on Upper Paradise Road when he struck the teen, trying to cross over Upper Paradise Road.

The pedestrian became airborne and struck a northbound stopped vehicle, say investigators.

He was sent to hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuires at a trauma centre.

Const. Krista-Lee Ernst confirmed the offending vehicle was not stolen and that the two boys were students from St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School.

“Hamilton police have made an arrest and have charged a 15-year-old boy with fail to remain causing death,” Ernst told reporters Wednesday night at the scene on Upper Paradise.

“The investigation is still in its infancy.”

The driver is also facing a dangerous driving charge.

Investigators say they are not looking for any further suspects and that the accused was taken into custody a short time after the collison.

Further charges are pending the results of a probe, said Ernst.

Authorities are asking drivers or individuals in the area around Upper Paradise Road between Stone Church Road West and Skyview Drive who may have witnessed the incident to reach out to police.

“We want to speak to anyone that may have been in the area, anyone who may have been driving by, anyone who saw erratic driving shortly before 3 p.m., ” said Ernst.
