Man dead after shooting in Toronto: police

A man is dead after a shooting in Toronto, police say.

On Friday in a tweet, Toronto police said the incident occurred in the Birchmount Road and Sheppard Avenue East area.

Officers said a man had been located with serious injuries.

Speaking on Friday evening, Acting Insp. Salem Husain said police received a call for a shooting at 5:25 p.m. on Friday. Officers arrived — along with firefighters and paramedics — to find a man in an underground parking lot suffering a gunshot wound.

Despite treatment at the scene, he was pronounced dead, police said.

On Saturday, police named the victim as 34-year-old Gars-Ara Kourjakian from Toronto.

Toronto police’s homicide squad is leading the investigation.
