Chilliwack shooting leaves one person dead, burned SUV found nearby

A person was shot and killed in Chilliwack, B.C., on Tuesday evening.

The shooting happened around 5:45 p.m. at a home near Windsor Street just off Yale Road, according to Chilliwack RCMP.

“Frontline officers responded and located an unresponsive man suffering from gunshot wounds,” said Sgt. Krista Vrolyk in a Tuesday news release.

“The man was transported to hospital where he died from his injuries.”

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called. Investigators believe the shooting is a targeted incident and there is no public threat.

Shortly after the shooting, around 6:45 p.m., Chilliwack RCMP found a burned SUV left in a parking lot by the Tzeachten Sports Field.

Police have not said whether the torched vehicle is connected to the shooting or whether any arrests have been made.

Around an hour after the shooting an SUV was found on fire near Bailey and Matheson Roads on the Tzeachten First Nation. Global News
