REGINA – Look back 10 years.
“We were supporting maybe six to ten events a year. Now we are supporting over 50 events every single year,” said Tracy Fahlman, CEO of the Regina Hotel Association.
The association in partnership with Tourism Regina, provides funding to groups who want to bid on events. They are working to make Regina a destination. It is a much different city than it was the last time it played host to the Grey Cup.

“We have almost 1000 more hotel rooms, so we’re better positioned to accommodate larger scale events,” said Fahlman.
She continued, “We’ve created a reputation for ourselves just by hosting such successful events over the past few years and it’s really adding to our resume as a city.”
And as a province. Even with 25 percent more hotel rooms than in 2003, Grey Cup fans may have to turn to accommodation outside of the city – which might not be a bad thing.
“The views, whether you’re at Fort Qu’Appelle or Lumsden are absolutely amazing,” said Tourism Saskatchewan CEO, Pat Fiacco.
Tourism Saskatchewan hopes the festivities will showcase the hospitality of other communities.
“We want to leverage all of that and learn from it and continue to improve as we have these other events,” he said.
