Montreal police say an 88-year-old woman has died after a serious collision Wednesday afternoon in the Parc-Extension neighbourhood.
The victim was walking when she was struck by the driver of a vehicle around 4:25 p.m. at the intersection of Hutchison and Jean-Talon Streets. A security perimetre was set up at the scene and motorists were asked to avoid the area.
Police say the woman suffered serious upper body injuries and was not conscious when she was taken to hospital. She died early Thursday.
“Unfortunately, her death was confirmed at the hospital,” police said.
An investigation is underway.
Police are also investigating a second collision that happened in Montreal’s east end at around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
A man in his 70s was riding a bicycle and was struck by a vehicle heading northbound on Marien Avenue near the intersection of Sherbrooke Street.
The cyclist was rushed to hospital and is in critical condition, according to police.
