The Government of Alberta is now running ads about incomplete flood claims, to encourage people to get their paperwork in before the impending deadline.
About a third of the 9,000 it has received haven’t been approved because they’re missing either proof of home ownership or letters from insurance companies.

A spokesperson says they’re phoning hundreds of disaster recovery program applicants every day, encouraging them to get all that information in, but recognize that many people haven’t received documentation from their insurance companies.
The government is meeting with insurers to try and expedite that, and have also simplified the application process.
Some flood victims disagree, calling the program confusing.
“I literally still biweekly or weekly contact the disaster relief program; ‘how is my status, how is my status?’” complains Trish Dribnenki, whose Sunnyside home suffered extensive damage.
The deadline to start a claim for disaster recovery funding is November 30, 2013.
