CALGARY – 19-year-old rookie Sean Monahan will spend the remainder of the 2013-14 NHL season with the Calgary Flames, instead of returning to his junior club.
Flames general manager Jay Feaster made the announcement on Wednesday.
“We feel good about him. We feel good about the decision we’ve made,” said Feaster. “We believe his development is best served with us.”

Monahan was selected sixth overall in the 2013 NHL Draft , and is leading the Flames in goals scored this year with 6 through 9 games.
He also has the best shooting percentage on the roster, connecting on 28.6 per cent of his 21 shots on net this year, and leads the team with 2 power play markers.
Although he is young, Feaster says no one should question the rookie’s maturity.
“He’s a 19-year-old going on 29 years old,” says Feaster.
Prior to being drafted by the Flames, Monahan spent three seasons with the Ottawa 67’s, serving as the club’s captain in the 2012-13 season.
