FREDERICTON, N.B. – One of the men suspected of gunning down a Fredericton businessman in the Philippines last year is in police custody.

Philippines National Police (PNP) arrested Jeffrey “Opok” Parian on Tuesday in Surigao Del Norte province, two months after a warrant was officially issued for his arrest in the murder of Harry Doyle.

The 62-year-old man was gunned down in a resort area of Punta Bilar, near Surigao City, on Aug. 12, 2012.

Parian is one of four suspects in the murder, including his brother Jhonny Parian (who is still at large), Doyle’s driver and body guard Jerome Devocion (who is in police custody on other charges), and Doyle’s wife Erma “Jane” Udang Doyle.

In a release sent to Global News this week, police said Parian fired at officers with a Colt .45 calibre pistol when they came to serve the arrest warrant.

Doyle’s wife was charged at the same time with “parricide” — the murder of a family member or spouse — and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Jane Doyle has been living in Fredericton since arriving in Canada on Aug. 25, 2012, with her 12-year-old son (with Doyle) and pregnant with another son, whom she gave birth to in November.

PNP named her as one of the primary suspects in her husband’s murder a week later.

At the time, investigators said they believed she was having an “illicit relationship” with Devocion.

Devocion was charged with Doyle’s murder while already in police custody on other charges.

None of the allegations in the Doyle murder have been proven in court.

Doyle had lived in the Philippines for a number of years and owned a guest house called “Jane’s Lodge” in Surigao City, but he maintained a house in Fredericton,

Jane Doyle has not commented publicly since being named a suspect in the case and numerous past attempts to reach her have been unsuccessful.
