Halifax police recover body after suspected drowning at King’s Wharf

Halifax Regional Police say an RCMP underwater search team has recovered the body of a missing swimmer in Dartmouth.

His identity has not been confirmed, said police.

Emergency crews responded to King’s Wharf on Wednesday evening to look for a missing swimmer, but were unable to find the man.

Police said officers and firefighters responded to the scene just after 8 p.m., after witnesses reported an adult man had gone under the water and couldn’t be found.

“A joint response was quickly conducted by officers and firefighters, but unfortunately they were unable to locate the male,” police wrote in a Wednesday night release.

Thursday morning, police continued the search, as they asked boaters to avoid the area of King’s Wharf and Dominion Diving jetty.

At 11 a.m., police released that they recovered the body and that divers have cleared the scene.

“Our thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones during this difficult time,” read the HRP release.

The investigation into the death is ongoing.
