A large wrench plummeted from The Bow building downtown that’s under construction, landing with such force that it smashed through a main-floor window of police headquarters across the road on 6th Avenue S.W.
Occupation Health and Safety officials were called in to investigate the incident Saturday, which police said had the potential to be fatal had someone been struck by the falling object.
“Certainly, a wrench that size could do significant damage to a vehicle and could be fatal to a human,” said police Insp. Keith Cain, adding it was also fortunate the area where the window was smashed is not occupied.

The wrench reportedly fell from the 45th floor of the building, which when complete will be 58 storeys.
“I don’t know if it landed and bounced over or how exactly that happened. It must be 100 feet between those buildings,” said Cain.
In a news release issued Saturday after the noon incident, a spokesman said Ledcor construction, which is working on the building, “proactively contacted all relevant authorities to advice the of the incident.”
Morten Paulsen said a full investigation is underway and a more detailed statement would be released when more information is available. “The developers of the The Bow are committed to safety and will investigate this incident to the fullest,” he said in the statement.
