Businesses located near an equipment rental facility in Etobicoke were evacuated Tuesday amid a fire and exploding propane tanks.
Toronto police said emergency crews were called around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday the area of Brydon Drive and Racine Road, near Kipling Avenue and Rexdale Boulevard.
Police said firefighters were evacuating businesses in the area.
Road closures were also in place.
Toronto Fire Services Chief Matthew Pegg also responded to the scene of the three-alarm blaze.
A spokesperson for Toronto fire told Global News the blaze was at Cooper Equipment Rentals, a construction equipment rental company.
The spokesperson said the immediate area was evacuated.
Fire crews are were a defensive mode as they worked to cool down large propane tanks, the spokesperson added.
No injuries were reported and about 30 trucks and 100 firefighters were on scene, with “the bulk of the fire” suppressed by 4:30 p.m.
Fire services said crews received reports that around 60 industrial-sized propane tanks had caught fire and exploded.
