One person is dead and two others are injured after a collision in Brampton, police say.

In a tweet, Peel Regional Police said the collision occurred in the Chinguacousy Road and Burt Drive area just after 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Police initially said two vehicles collided, leaving two people with injuries.

However, in update just before 4 p.m., police said a woman has been pronounced deceased.

Officers said a man was taken into custody and has been transported to a trauma centre.

Another man was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

According to police, both the northbound and southbound lanes of the intersection are closed between Flowertown Road and Queen Street East.

Police said no formal charges have been laid, but said they expect it to be an “impaired related offence.”

Officers said the incident occurred near a high school, but confirmed no one else was injured.
